Developmentober '24: 'Trust me...' — Description

Day 20: "Trust me, I'm a professional"
"Trust me, I'm a professional...well, almost" Nickie uttered, chuckling nervously as he held up a surgical needle.
Although everything around was clean and sanitised, allowing Nickie to work safely and comfortably, he still felt an overwhelming uncertainty hanging over him. Sure, he knew how stitching worked, he knew at least five different ways to put stitches during his medical training. The thing is, he only did that on training dummies. And a person laying in the bed in front of him wasn't a dummy. It was a living human being from flesh and bone, what's more, he was his friend's father who was still losing blood. He didn't know what exactly happened inside that sinister sci-fi base that also made both Mars and Mrs deRege look like some sort of zombies but he knew the older man got into a huge fight that left him with deep gashes on his face and a couple of different types of wounds all over his body. The boy had to admit that he admired this man's bravery and resistance but it didn't make his job to save him any easier. The deep cuts on Mr DeReges lips and across his eyebrow were the worst and had to be treated sooner. Nickie had learnt that the body part that has one of the densest networks of blood vessels is face which in this case made Othello's face bleed like hell which was one of the main reasons the man passed out the moment adrenaline wore off.
"Well? Then why the hesitation?" asked Mars who was sitting next to Nickie.
"Ah well...dummies don't usually get crippled or mutilated for life, you know?" The blond boy chuckled nervously, "This is my first time doing it on someone else"
"Buddy, you literally have to start from somewhere!" Lily huffed impatiently, "Like what? You're gonna be a paramedic saving someone's crushed leg and be like 'I'm so sorry sir, I dunno how Lego pieces in real life work'?!"
"JUST-- gimme a sec to prepare mentally!" Nickie spat before taking a deep breath and mentally counting to three, "I might be this close to being a professional but I want to make sure I'll do good on my first try..." He finally said before looking down at his first patient and carefully analysing the issue.
"It might sting a bit, sir..." He said quietly as he carefully got to work.

It's the moments after the big epic confrontation but not all heroes get out of them without a scratch! I imagined Othello passing out from his wounds the moment he knew his family was safe. He actually hoped to die peacefully, knowing that they're finally safe but nope, they won't let him go that easily.
And yes, Nickie actually signed up for a medical training to be a paramedic in the future! His father is a doctor who has his private office but Nickie actually imagined himself helping people in more extreme conditions. Not it was his time to shine!
