Description
This is a custom background I did of a Bad Future incarnation of Rusty Ruin Zone from Sonic 3D Blast but in 2D. I was also heavily inspired by the Sonic fan game Sonic 3D in 2D as well.
As we all know, Eggman outfitted the booby traps of Rusty Ruin with modern machinery in the original game. However, in this bad future timeline, after Eggman took over Flicky Island, he turned Rusty Ruin into a deadly hyper-industrialized rusty fortress. The traps are deadlier and the badniks are far more dangerous than in the present. The base looks rusted. However, unlike Sonic CD where the bad future levels were rusted due to abandonment or neglect, Eggman INTENTIONALLY made parts of the zone rusted to add insult to injury to remind Flicky Island that Rusty Ruin Zone is under HIS CONTROL.
Credit goes to various spriters such as Paraemon, Divine Insect, etc for ripping the sprites and Sega, Sega Technical Institute, and Sonic Team for the original sprite artworks.
