Innerspace Agent Mission Ready — Description
I did a series of images of "Innerspace" agents some time ago now and someone recently asked for a commission piece of one of them. This bird, actually, Chandara. He asked me what she was like, and if she was single. I wasn't quite sure how to answer because I'd not really thought about it much. I know that Innerspace is a reference to the film of the same name, in which miniaturized people in dive suits and subs do battle inside a human body, so I thought she did something like that, but I didn't go beyond it. I did want to answer the person's question, though, and I came up with this. I liked it so much that I decided to Post it and put a bit of work into this image in it's honour.

As for who this girl is; She's leading a double life. Her name is Ana DeClercq. She's 22 and comes from Belgium, but she's living in Cambridge where she's attending the Graduate School of Life Sciences. She's studying nanotechnology and biomedicine on a full scholarship, and is considered one of the most gifted students in the school. She's also a Nidan (2nd Dan Black Belt) in Daito-ryu Aiki-Jujutsu, making her the youngest EU jujutsu champion ever. She is a bit punk, yeah, and likes to intersperse uni and martial arts training with being a bit of a partygirl. She's single, and can be a little wild, but there's a girl in her program that she fancies and the two of them have started something that looks quite a lot like a relationship. She's fallen for her pretty hard, and is agonizing over whether or not to bring up the idea of being exclusive.

Her unusual combination of skills, biomedicine with an emphasis on nanotech applications, plus her martial arts skills and high level of physical fitness brought her to the attention of EUIDF - the European Union Innerspace Defense Force. This elite, ultra-secret international organization is the front line of defense against governments and terrorists that would make use of new miniaturization technology to manipulate or assassinate government officials and CEOs. This technology is so secret that the general public doesn't even know about the war that is being fought inside the bodies of some of the world's most famous and powerful people, or about the ultra secret EUIDF that's on the front lines of this emerging conflict.

About a year ago she was recruited by the EUIDF to be a field agent. This means that a few days a week she makes her way down to a secret facility in London where she's suited up, encased in a one-woman attack submersible, miniaturized down to the size of just a few atoms, and then put into a syringe. Once she's in her syringe another team is responsible for delivering her to a VIP that the EUIDF intelligence section determines is at risk of assassination or takeover by enemy agents. In some cases the VIP knows about the injection, but sometimes they have no idea and the EUIDF agent must be delivered in secret orally or by even more esoteric means!

Once she's inside the VIP Ana's mission is simple; find and eliminate any enemy agents, or determine that no enemy agents are present, then pilot her submersible out of the VIP before the 16 hour miniaturization effect wears off and she re-enlarges INSIDE the VIP. No-one knows why the 16 hour limit exists, but no-one has ever broken through it. As a failsafe, Ana's submersible and suit (which allows her limited maneuverability and a chance of succeeding or surviving a mission in which her submersible is destroyed) are both equipped with systems that will disintegrate her at the 15:59 mark if she's still inside a human body. Ana doesn't want to die, but just in the last year she's come to understand the stakes of the clandestine war she's a soldier in and is willing to do what she must to make a difference. Also, she's become quite addicted to the excitement of her missions and to the wonder that comes from being able to explore the human body from such a unique perspective.

Personally Ana is energetic, vivacious, driven, intelligent, witty, a bit nerdy, and very liberal. She's alt-culture, bisexual, loves punk, rap, and EDM, isn't above a bit of drug and alcohol use / abuse, and is determined to live life to the fullest. She's daring, but also just a bit shy - a tendency she tries to force herself to overcome, though not always successfully as you can see with her girlfriend who she's a afraid of asking to take their relationship to the next level. Even though she's not happy about what governments have done to the world, she believes in the mission of protecting visionary men and women, and takes her service as an agent seriously with a degree of dedication and professionalism that belies her years. The EUIDF already see her as one of their best agents, and are beginning to groom her for command.
